If your iPhone or iPad won't connect to a Wi-Fi network
Get help connecting to Wi-Fi on your iPhone or iPad.
Make sure that your router is on and that you're within range
If you're too far from your Wi-Fi router, you can't get a signal, so make sure that you're within range.
Make sure that Wi-Fi is on and that you can see your network
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and make sure that Wi-Fi is on. Tap the name of your Wi-Fi network to join. A blue checkmark beside a network name means that you're connected.
If you see Auto Join disabled under Settings > Wi-Fi > [Your Network], tap the More Info button and then tap Auto-Join.
If asked, enter your Wi-Fi password
If asked, enter the password for your Wi-Fi network. Get help if you don't know your password .
Even if you enter the correct password, you might see an "unable to join the network" message or an "incorrect password" message. Restart all of your devices , then try to enter your password again.
Check for issues with your Wi-Fi network
If iOS or iPadOS detects an issue with your Wi-Fi connection, you might see a Wi-Fi recommendation under the name of the Wi-Fi network that you're connected to. For example, you might see the alert "No Internet Connection." To get more information, tap the Wi-Fi network.
Check your cables and connections
If you still can't connect to your network or get online, make sure that your router is connected to the modem and turned on.
Restart your iOS or iPadOS device.
Restart your router and cable or DSL modem by unplugging the device and then plugging it back in.
After you restart each device, see if you fixed the issue.
Reset your network settings
If you're using iOS or iPadOS 15 or later, tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
If you're using iOS or iPadOS 14 or earlier, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

- If you're connected to a Wi-Fi network but you can’t get online, try to use your Wi-Fi network on other devices. If you can't get online using your other devices, there might be a service outage. Call your cable company or internet provider for help.
- Try connecting to a Wi-Fi network in a different location. If your device can connect, you need to get help with your Wi-Fi network. If your device can't connect to any Wi-Fi networks, contact Apple .
- Update your Wi-Fi router with the latest firmware and make sure that the router supports your Apple product. For more information, contact the router's manufacturer.

iPhone 7 Plus glass is shattered
Oh no! Your iPhone's glass did not survive your unintentional drop test!
Take a deep breath and see if your iPhone will turn on and operate normally. In most cases, the iPhone is still functional but now a cosmetic disaster. Unfortunately, the iPhone 7 Plus front glass and LCD are fused together and must be replaced as one piece.

iPhone is frozen or unresponsive
Even after furious button mashing and screen smashing, your iPhone 7 Plus doesn't respond.
Sometimes all it takes is a restart for the iPhone to become responsive again. To restart your iPhone when it is unresponsive, press and hold the volume down and power buttons until the Apple logo appears (~10 seconds).
It is possible for an iPhone to become unresponsive if the battery drops to an extremely low level. Plug the iPhone into your computer or wall charger and allow it to charge for at least 20 minutes before using it again.
iPhone 7 Plus will not charge
Plugging in your iPhone 7 Plus does not bring it life.
Check the USB cable for damage and dirt, especially at the ends. Then try using the wall charger, as this will provide greater power input than the computer/USB.
Try using different chords, chargers and different wall outlets to see if there is a problem with your charger, cord, or wall outlet.
Inspect the Lightning connector at the bottom of the iPhone for dirt, lint, and damaged pins. Clean out the connector very carefully with a tooth pick or soft toothbrush. If the lightning connector is broken, you will have to replace it.

iPhone will not turn on
You cannot get your beloved iPhone 7 Plus to turn on.
Plug your iPhone into your computer or wall adapter to charge. If the phone does not charge when connected, the phone likely has a dead battery or a bad charging port. Replace the battery ( using this guide here ) with a partially charged one and see if the phone will turn on. If not, there may be a power button or logic board issue. If the phone does turn on, plug it in and see if the charging indication comes on. If the phone says it is charging, then the lightning connector works, and the problem is either the old battery or the logic board.
If the power button doesn't seem to work, plug the phone into the wall or a computer and let it charge. If the phone turns on and has power, then there might be a problem with either the power button or the power button cable.
It is possible that it appears nothing is happening because the display is bad. If the iPhone sounds like it is working properly but nothing is visible, it is possible the display is bad and must be replaced. Unfortunately, the LCD and glass panel are fused together, and must be replaced as one unit. An easy way to test this is to turn the phone on and listen for a sound. Also, you can move the mute toggle switch back and forth to see if it vibrates. If it vibrates or you hear a sound but nothing displays on the screen, then the screen is most likely the problem. Try replacing it and see if the display is still black.
If nothing else works, your logic board is probably faulty and needs to be replaced. Now it is time to either replace it or diagnose if and what components are bad on the board and replace them, using microsoldering techniques. That is a whole 'nother beast!

"This accessory is not optimized for this iPhone" message
An error message appears as if you have connected an unsupported accessory to your iPhone.
Check the Lightning connector at the bottom of the iPhone for dirt, lint, and damaged pins. Clean out the connector very carefully with a tooth pick or soft toothbrush. Use high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a cotton swab to clean any debris that does not come off with a tooth pick or soft toothbrush. If the connector is broken, you will have to replace it.
After an iPhone has been submerged in a liquid, there may be some corrosion or debris on the logic board connections that cause this error message. Remove the logic board and clean all of the contacts with a soft cotton swab and high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%).

Weak or lost wireless connections
You have trouble connecting to a wireless network.
If your iPhone has been disassembled before, it's possible that finger oils were left on the grounding locations for the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth antennas. These oils will cause grounding issues for the antennas, which could lead to a weak signal or no connectivity at all. Be sure to clean all grounding points with an electronics cleaning solution before reassembling your iPhone to prevent grounding issues.
No audio or distorted audio through speakers or headphones
Your iPhone 7 Plus turns on and appears to work, but when you plug in headphones or speakers, the audio doesn't play properly.
It's unlikely your headphones or speakers are bad, but it's worthwhile to eliminate these as the source of your problem at the beginning. Try your iPhone with different sets of headphones and speakers just to make sure that the problem is with the iPhone and not an external device.
The most likely cause of audio output problems on an iPhone 7 Plus is a bad lightning connector. If you have determined that the problem does not lie in your external speakers, you should replace the lightning connector.
Touch ID nonfunctional after replacement
Following a home button replacement, Touch ID features stop working.
As a security feature, your home button's embedded Touch ID fingerprint sensor is uniquely paired to your iPhone's logic board at the factory. If the original home button assembly is replaced, damaged, or disconnected, Touch ID features will cease to function.
Restore iPhone 7 Plus
Your iPhone is behaving erratically or displays the text "Use iTunes to restore" on startup.
It isn't often that Apple gives specific directions about how to fix your problem! Restoring the iPhone 7 Plus will erase everything on it, so make sure everything on the iPhone is stored elsewhere prior to restoring. To restore, connect your iPhone 7 Plus to a computer with iTunes installed. Click "Restore" on the iPhone 7 Plus summary page (click on your iPhone icon on the left menu to find this page). Follow the directions to restore. If your iPhone 7 Plus displays the text "Please wait. Very Low Battery," leave it plugged in. This charges the iPhone enough to be able to restore. If the iPhone 7 Plus hangs on this screen for long periods of time, you may need a new battery.
If your iPhone 7 Plus is frozen with an Apple logo, or exhibiting some other software problem that prevents iTunes from recognizing it, you can force it into recovery/restore mode and then use iTunes to restore the software.
If the device is powered off, connect the iPhone 7 Plus to your computer via the USB Cable. Press down and hold the Sleep/Wake + Volume Down Button, until you see the "connect to iTunes" message in your screen. If you see an Apple logo but not the iTunes logo, keep holding the buttons. This will take around 10 seconds. iTunes should prompt you to restore the software. Follow the prompts and the instructions given above.
If the device is powered on, hold down both the sleep/wake and volume down buttons until the device reboots and displays the "Connect to iTunes" image (generally, 5-15 seconds).
iPhone has water or liquid damage
After an accidental spill or a drop in the sink, your iPhone no longer works correctly.
As soon as possible, perform the following:
- Immediately remove the iPhone from the liquid (if safe to do so). Minimize the length of time your device is in contact with liquid to prevent corrosive damage.
- Turn the iPhone off. (If it was off already, do not turn it on.)
- [Don't Put Your Device in Rice. Here's Why...|Skip the rice|new_window=true]. Contrary to what you may have heard, rice is not an effective or lasting fix for water damaged electronics.
- Liquid damage may complicate disassembly. Beware that some cables and connectors may be "adhered" to other components in unexpected ways.
At this point, inspect the interior of your iPhone and try to determine the extent of the liquid damage.
- Whew! You may have dodged a bullet. Check the water damage indicators, look around the ports and SIM card tray, and inspect the battery connector carefully for signs of liquid or corrosion.
- If you notice any sign of liquid intrusion, skip to the next section below.
- If everything looks bone dry, you might not need to do anything further. Give your phone a couple hours to air out, re-connect the battery, power it on, and test all functions. If you notice any problems, continue to the next section below.
- Follow the opening guide to begin removing components.
- As you remove each component, check it carefully for signs of liquid or corrosion damage. Wipe any liquid and/or corrosion away carefully with isopropyl alcohol and a clean, soft nylon brush, such as a toothbrush, and allow it to air dry.
- Continue disassembling until you no longer see any signs of liquid intrusion.
- Do not attempt to re-use a battery that has been in contact with any liquid.
- Power on your iPhone and test all functions. If you notice any problems, continue to the next section below.
- Follow the opening guide to take your iPhone apart completely.
- Clean each component, cable connector, and socket carefully with isopropyl alcohol and a clean toothbrush.
- Use the toothbrush to scrub visible corrosion and residue from the logic board. Clean all connectors, chips, and fuses.
- Repeat cleaning if necessary, or if traces of residue are still visible.
- For any particular function that fails, replace the associated component with a new part , and then re-test.
- If problems persist, a board-level repair may be necessary. We don’t yet have comprehensive guides for board-level repair, so you may wish to consult a microsoldering specialist for more options.

I have the same problem. Apple says they can’t fix it but will take my phone as a trade in and charge me just as much for the same or more for an upgrade. Need help with this same problem. It works with bluetooth in my car, headset & iWatch for making calls.

Part 1: Solving Cellular Network Issues with iPhone
In this section of our ultimate guide for solving all iPhone network issues we will be fixing cellular network issues with your iPhone. Follow each of the steps detailed below and hopefully by the end of this guide you will have an iPhone that lets you connect to your cellular network.
With these steps you will be able to solve SIM not working with iPhone issues, connection drops, iPhone not able to make or receive phone calls, No Service errors, iPhone Searching for network issues and more.
1. Toggle Airplane Mode
The first and easiest thing that you should do, which could result in restoring your iPhone’s network connectivity and solving No Service iPhone problem is toggling the Airplane Mode on and off. When you turn on the Airplane mode of your iPhone its radio-frequency signal transmission is suspended. So when you turn it back off your iPhone will turn on its radio-frequency signal transmission and look for cellular signals again. This could result in connecting your iPhone to its network. You can quickly toggle the Airplane mode on your iPhone by accessing the Control Center (swipe down from top right corner of the screen) and then tapping on the ‘Airplane’ button.
Toggling Airplane mode can also be helpful when your iPhone is not giving full signal. When you turn it on and back off your iPhone can get a better reception.
2. Reboot your iPhone
If toggling Airplane mode does not activate cellular network on your iPhone, then don’t worry as rebooting it might be more helpful. Simply restart your iPhone by long pressing the Power and Volume Up buttons and then slide to power off. Once the device has turned off completely you can reboot it by pressing and holding the power button. If your iPhone’s power button is not working, then you can also go to Settings > General and scroll all the way down to tap on the ‘Shut Down’ button.
You also have the option to force reboot your iPhone in case normal shut down methods are not working or your device is stuck or frozen. You can force reboot a modern iPhone by following the simple steps below.
- Press and release the Volume Up button.
- Then press and release the Volume Down button.
- Now press and hold the Power/Lock button .
- Keep the power button pressed until you see the Apple logo.
For older models that have a home button, you can follow this guide to force reboot your iPhone 8, 7 or 6s .
3. Update Your Carrier Settings
Another and possibly more effective way to solve iPhone No Service or Searching errors is by updating your carrier settings. Most carriers change their settings and automatically push them to your iPhone, however sometimes settings are not automatically pushed to your device and you are left with connectivity issues. You can solve such problems by updating your carrier settings manually. To do so, simply open Settings > General And go to About page. As soon as you access the About page iPhone will prompt you about updating your carrier settings. Simply tap on ‘Update’ option and iPhone will update your carrier settings for you.
4. Eject and reinsert your SIM card
This might sound like a simple solution but it is also one of the most effective. Go ahead and eject your SIM card from iPhone’s SIM tray and insert it back in. When you do make sure you are placing the SIM card on the SIM tray properly and then put the SIM card back into your iPhone. If you have a dual-SIM iPhone XS Max , then make sure you insert the SIM card even more carefully, exposing the golden part of the SIM on both top and bottom sides of the tray. Your iPhone should detect the SIM card as soon as you place it inside the iPhone and connect to your network right away.
5. Reset your Network settings
Next thing you should try to solve No Service errors on your iPhone is resetting its network settings. Doing so will restore iPhone’s network settings to their original configuration and hopefully end up solving any connectivity issues that may be caused due to wrong settings. You can reset your iPhone’s network settings by going to Settings > General > Reset and from there tapping on the ‘Reset Network Settings’ option. You will be asked to enter your iPhone’s passcode before you can proceed to reset your network settings.
6. Update to latest iOS version
Updating to latest version of iOS is perhaps the most underrated troubleshooting technique out there. Apple regularly releases new software updates for all its devices, and these new releases often contain bug fixes for various iPhone functions. Make sure your iPhone is running the latest available iOS version to make sure all the bugs are fixed on it. You can check your iPhone’s current iOS version by opening Settings > General > About. There you will the ‘Software Version’ for your device. If your device needs to be updated, then you can update your device to the latest version by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
7. Check if your iPhone is carrier locked
If you have got a new iPhone that was resold to you or given away by a relative, then chances are the device may be carrier locked. When an iPhone is carrier locked you are only able to use the SIM card from a particular network with it. All other networks simply don’t work with that particular device, as opposed to a factory unlocked iPhone, which works with all networks worldwide.
The easiest and simplest way of checking whether your iPhone is carrier locked according to MacWorld is by going to Settings and then to Mobile Data. If on Mobile Data screen you get the option saying Mobile Data Network, then your iPhone is most probably factory unlocked, as this option is only available on unlocked iPhones. If the device does not have this option then chances are your iPhone will only work with its original network provider, unless you get it unlocked by paying that network’s fees.

8. Toggle Wi-Fi Off and On
The simplest yet most effective way to restore Wi-Fi connection on any device including an iPhone or iPad is simply turning off Wi-Fi and then turning it back on. You can quickly turn off Wi-Fi network on your device by access the Wi-Fi toggle from the Control Center (Swipe down from top right corner of the screen). When you turn off your Wi-Fi network it instantly disconnects from any Wi-Fi networks it is connected to and then reconnects as soon as you turn it back on. 9. Check if you have Internet Connectivity and Restart Router
While you are baffled by Wi-Fi not working on your iPhone or iPad, the problem might not be related to your iOS device at all. It is advisable to check if you have Internet connectivity available on your Wi-Fi network in the first place. You can do so by checking the Internet light on your router or accessing the same network with some other device such as another iPhone or your computer. If your Internet is not working on other devices as well, then you need to contact your service provider to have your Internet connection restored.
10. Remove Wi-Fi Network and add again
Sometimes Wi-Fi network stops working on iPhone or iPad due to configuration issues. You can solve them by simply removing the Wi-Fi network from your device, and then adding it back again using a few simple steps. To remove a Wi-Fi network from your iOS device simply go to Settings and then to Wi-Fi. From there look for your Wi-Fi network and tap on the ‘i’ button located next to its name. Finally tap on Forget This Network option in order to remove the network from your device.
Once you have removed the Wi-Fi network, you can connect to it again from the Wi-Fi settings page. You will need to enter the Wi-Fi password again in order to connect to this network.
11. Reset your Network Settings
We have also recommended resetting your iPhone’s network settings in first part of this guide, and will recommend it again for troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues with an iPhone or iPad, as doing so can effectively solve Wi-Fi network issues for iPhone users. You can reset your iPhone’s network settings by going to Settings > General > Reset, and from there tap on the ‘Reset Network Settings’ option. Your iPhone will ask you to confirm this action by entering your device’s passcode. Enter the passcode in order to reset the iPhone’s network settings. Afterwards connect to your Wi-Fi network to see if it has started working again or not.
12. Enable Auto-Join for your Wi-Fi network
Wi-Fi connectivity issues are certainly not limited to Wi-Fi not working as users also face problems when their device constantly disconnects from their Wi-Fi network, forcing them to reconnect to it again and again. This problem can be solved by enabling the Auto-Join feature that is offered on the Wi-Fi settings page. When this feature is enabled your iPhone will automatically connect to the said Wi-Fi network without requiring any effort from your end. How To Fix An iPhone 7 Plus That Says No Service
- Restart Your iPhone
Restarting your iPhone can sometimes fix minor software glitches and errors.
How Do I Restart My iPhone?
- Press and hold the power button (iPhones without Face ID) or the side button and either volume button (iPhones with Face ID) on your iPhone until the slide to power off slider appears on the display.
- Swipe the red power icon from left to right to turn off your iPhone.
- Wait about 30 seconds, then press and hold the power button (iPhones without Face ID) or the side button (iPhones with Face ID) again until the Apple logo appears in the center of the display.

If you start experiencing Bluetooth problems, the first thing you’ll want to do is forget the device giving you an issue. To forget a Bluetooth connection on your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus go to Settings > Bluetooth > Select your connection using the circular blue i tab > Tap Forget this Device. Try reconnecting.
If this doesn’t help your device reconnect to your speakers or headset, it’s time to go a step further. First, try resetting your iPhone 7’s network settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will take a few seconds and you won’t lose any data.
If that doesn’t help, try resetting all of your settings. To do this go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This will restore your settings to their factory defaults so you’ll need Wi-Fi passwords handy. If you’ve customized a ton of settings on your iPhone, it could take awhile to restore them.
If this doesn’t help your iPhone 7, you’ll want to consult your manual for your speaker, headset, car, etc. Most products have manuals online so do a quick Google search for your product and see what you find.

How to Fix iPhone 7 Sound Problems
Occasionally, the sound on our iPhone 7 has become distorted. If this happens, there are a few remedies to try.
First, try a simple restart. Hold down the power button and turn the phone off. Turn it back on and see if the normal sound returns. This has worked for us in the past. You can also try performing a hard reset. Hold down the Power Button and the Volume Down button at the same time.
If that doesn’t help, try turning Bluetooth off and on. Check the sound. If it’s still missing, try removing any dust that could be blocking or the Lightning Dock.
You should also check your Ring/Silent switch on the side to make sure it’s set in the right position. Maybe you accidentally nudged it.
How to Fix iPhone 7 Random Reboots
iPhone random reboots are another common issue and we’ve already experienced a couple on our version of the AT&T iPhone 7.
If you’re unfamiliar with this common issue, it’s when the device shuts down on its own, shows the Apple logo, goes to the lock screen, and then reboots again without warning. It’s a frustrating problem to say the least.
To try and get out of a boot loop you’ll want to hold down the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time. The device will show the Apple logo and restart.
This typically gets rid of the problem, at least temporarily. If you’re seeing more than a few random reboots a week you might want to bring your iPhone 7 into an Apple Store.

Like the iPhone 6s, the iPhone 7 comes with 3D Touch. 3D Touch allows you to make hard presses on the screen to open up shortcuts and features.
iPhone 7 users are saying that 3D Touch sometimes pops up too fast and some are simply having problems getting its various shortcuts to popup.
If you’re having issues with 3D Touch, try adjusting the feature’s sensitivity. To do that, head into Settings > General > Accessibility > scroll down to 3D Touch and tap.
The default is set to medium but you can switch it to firm or light. You can test the sensitivity at the bottom to see what suits you best.
If that doesn’t fix your problem try resettings your settings. Head to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. Your device will forget known Wi-Fi passwords but you won’t lose any data.
How to Fix iPhone 7 Problems If Nothing Else Works

If they can’t help and you don’t want to get up from your computer chair, you can try downgrading to a previous version of iOS when one is available.
Apple typically keeps the downgrade loophole open for a few weeks before closing it off so you’ll need to act quickly.
You can also opt to restore from a backup assuming you have one. Here’s how to do that. You’ll want to allot an hour or so of time to make sure you do this properly.
To restore from a backup:
- Plug in and backup to the computer or to iCloud .
- Turn off Find My iPhone – Settings -> iCloud -> Find my iPhone -> Off .
- In iTunes Click Restore .

- When it completes click Restore from Backup to put your information back on the iPhone or Choose to set up as a new iPhone .
- Choosing to set up as a new iPhone will erase your files and data so please be careful.

What about the way the iPhone 7’s loose GPS randomly? I know I am not alone in this, have seen in other forums it is quite common. I drive a LOT, and absolutely need my GPS, and it just quits and only fix is to reset the phone. Major PITA. So disappointed.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus are one of its kind devices. I believe their maintenance or repair is quite easy and affordable. Recently I gone through a trauma of a broken iPhone screen of my newly purchased iPhone 7. My little angel dropped it from a height of 30 feets and the screen was like totally shattered. I was worried if to send the device to Apple repair center which may took long. I watched out for iPhone repair services in Katy and eventually found https://www.cellntrade.com . Doesn’t it make more sense to just not buy one yet? I was thinking about getting one but decided to google ‘iPhone 7 issues” first. I have no desire to spend that much for something that just isn’t working properly!

I’m having a huge issues with my phone switching over to speaker as I’m talking to someone. It blows my eardrum out. After I’m done talking my ear hurts and rings for at least 30 mins. I have just tried the 3D touch to see if this helps. Do you have any other suggestions for me? I have had I phone’s for 10 years and have never had this issue with this. I’m stating to think I’m going to have some hearing loss issues if this continues.

It’s interesting to read that 3D touch is one of the most common problems people have. I’ve noticed that this feature is a little broken on my phone and I’m worried that it’s something mechanical. I tried changing the settings and think the part itself is broken so I’ll have to have it fixed professionally so I don’t have any problems in the future.

- Put the phone on speaker for a second and then tap on it again to turn it off.

When in the middle of a voice call and using either speakerphone or the handset, the mic cuts out , resulting in static and unintelligible sounds. The problem is intermittent. Often, after hanging up and calling again, the static is gone, but the caller is still hard to hear or muted completely.
- Restart your phone and check for an iOS update.
- Back up your iPhone, then perform a factory reset and restore the phone using the backup.
- Contact Apple Support or go to an Apple Store to rectify a hardware issue if software solutions fail.
Many users took to the Apple discussion forums to report that the Phone app will crash or lock up when in the Phone app’s settings, in the Recent Calls list, and while making calls using Bluetooth headsets. Soft and hard resets have not fixed the problem, and those who have tried a factory reset have not experienced any changes either.
- Update to the latest available version of iOS.
- If the problem started after an update, the update itself may have been installed incorrectly. If possible, restore your device to a backup made before the update was applied, then install the update again.

3D Touch was an integral part of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus , making it easier to interact with apps and access their deep settings and features. While 3D Touch is technically still available in hardware, the feature has been deprecated in later versions of the iOS where Haptic Touch has largely replaced 3D Touch and functions similarly. If you find the press and hold feature is not working as you expect, here are some things you can try.
- Make sure you are using the latest operating system — iOS 15.
- Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and toggle System Haptics off and on again.
- If you’ve recently applied a new screen protector, remove it and try the press and hold gesture again. If it works, the problem was with the screen protector.
- Clean your touchscreen, as well as your own hands.
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > Haptic Touch and adjust the touch duration.
People on the Apple forums have been having trouble with Touch ID . The feature either stopped working completely or was not functioning optimally, with some users reporting that they can’t use Touch ID while the iPhone is plugged in and charging.
- Restart your phone and then try to use Touch ID again.
- Clean the sensor and the finger(s) used for Touch ID. Dust, dirt, and other debris can interfere with the sensor.
- Remove previously added fingerprints and re-add them. Consider creating multiple fingerprints by scanning the same finger at different angles.
- If it doesn’t work while plugged in, try using a different wall outlet or USB port. Be sure to check the Lightning port as well and remove any debris.
- You should add a new fingerprint on your device every six months, but when you do so, your device’s Touch ID can malfunction. The best way to fix it is by visiting Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and deleting the old fingerprint. Add a new fingerprint and restart your device.
- Contact Apple Support, as it may be a hardware issue — some users noted that Touch ID stopped working after a battery replacement .
As with other smartphones, people have been having trouble maintaining a Bluetooth connection , either with 3rd party wireless headphones , or when trying to connect their iPhone to a car . Some users have also noticed a much larger drain on the battery when using it.
- Restart the phone.
- Toggle Bluetooth off and on again.
- Unpair the Bluetooth devices and try pairing them again.
- You can try resetting your network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings . Then try Bluetooth again.

This issue affects users with the iPhone 7 Plus. Users on the Apple discussion forums and Reddit complained that their iPhone 7 Plus shows a black — or sometimes a green or purple — screen when they use their camera. Sometimes an error also appears that says “Emergency iPhone needs to cool down.” Other users reported that the Camera app doesn’t load.
- The first thing to do is to try the steps listed on Apple’s support site.
- If the aforementioned steps don’t resolve the issue with your camera, your iPhone 7 is likely suffering from a hardware problem. In that case, we suggest that you contact Apple support or bring it in for servicing.
Apple’s support pages report on the likelihood of micro-abrasions on the glossy finish of the jet black iPhone 7, which was prone to scratching. However, a thread that reached epic proportions on Apple’s discussion forums shows the regular black finish on the iPhone 7 is also prone to chipping and peeling, even when encased.
Workarounds:
- Apple’s warranty doesn’t cover this kind of cosmetic damage. Some users opted to sell their iPhone and get another iPhone 7 in a different color.
- Apple suggests keeping a protective case on the phone at all times.
Over the years, many iPhone 7 users have complained that the phone can get uncomfortably hot. While it’s normal for smartphones to heat up when performing certain CPU-intensive tasks like broadcasting live video, using Snapchat, or playing games, your iPhone should return to a normal operating temperature when you’re done.
- A misbehaving app, possibly working in the background, could be what is causing your iPhone to overheat. Check for any apps that were just updated — this issue is often caused by a faulty update.
- Shut off apps and services like Safari, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, maps, navigation apps, and location services.

A nefarious new text message is reportedly doing the rounds, whereby a message is sent that contains just three characters and is capable of crashing iPhones.
The text itself contains just a white flag emoji, a “0”, and a rainbow emoji, and will disable both the touchscreen and the physical buttons on the phone. It doesn’t work on the latest version of iOS, however, and in most cases the effects are only temporary.
If you want to avoid the whole thing you simply need to make sure you’re on the latest version of iOS by going to Settings>General>Software Update. You can also try blocking the number if you do receive a text, to make sure you’re not sent any more in the future.
I’m experiencing poor call quality
This is the latest issue to hit the iPhone 7, and the good news is that Apple appears to be aware of it.
The bad news? There’s no obvious fix, although some users have reported that simply lowering the volume on their phone improves the sound quality on their iPhone 7.
For what it’s worth, Apple’s official guidance is as follows:
“If the speaker on your iOS device doesn’t work as expected, follow these steps. Try again after each step:
Go to Settings > Sounds and drag the Ringer And Alerts slider to turn the volume up. If you hear sound from the speaker, follow the rest of these steps. If you can’t hear sound from the speaker, contact Apple Support. If your device has a Ring/Silent switch, make sure it’s set to ring. (If you can see orange, your device is set to silent.)”

My new Lightning EarPods are crashing!
This the latest problem to afflict iPhone 7 users and it’s really no surprise. Unlike the 3.5mm headphone jack we all knew and loved, connecting your headphones via the Lightning port relies on Apple’s software to function, so the fact that we’re still at such an early stage of iOS 10 is no doubt to blame for the borkage.
Specifically, users are reporting that the controls on the new EarPod headphones are freezing and leaving them unable to operate their tunes, with volume management, call answering and Siri activation among the victims of ‘EarPod-gate’.
Apple has finally issued an official guidance on this problem, saying it’ll be addressing the bug in one of its next software fixes. But what about in the meantime?
If your EarPods are crashing, the Cupertino-based company recommends a familiar solution – try turning it on and off again.
Or rather, try unplugging the EarPods and plugging them in again. This apparently may or may not fix the problem, either temporarily or for a bit longer than temporarily, while you wait for an actual fix.
Seriously, that’s the best Apple could come up with. It’s unclear if third-party Lightning headphones are affected in a similar way.

In the immediate aftermath of the iPhone 7’s launch, this was the other major issue to surface – a strange hissing sound reported by owners of the shiny new smartphone.
The good and bad news follows – it’s (probably) nothing to worry about.
According to multiple sources, the odd audio effect occurs when first restoring your iPhone , which means it’s probably down to the new A10 processor firing up during the reboot.
In other words, it’s a similar phenomenon to the common PC problem known as ‘coil whine’, which typically presents itself when a CPU is being heavily taxed for the first time.
Wait and the issue should gradually subside as your phone naturally lubricates its internals, but if your predicament is particularly severe, some users have said they’ve successfully procured a new handset via the AppleCare+ programme .

I can’t plug my headphones in!
If you’ve been living under a very large rock since the iPhone 7 was announced, and on a whim popped down your pre-order without really looking into it, you’ll notice a very common port is missing from your shiny new handset. The iconic headphone jack is no more, but try not to worry.

This is a tricky one – if the Lightning port is being taken up by your headphones, how do you listen to tunes and charge at the same time?
The first solution is of course to use those wireless buds. But there are other ways too.
Belkin is selling what it calls the ‘ Rockstar ’ (Because only a rockstar would possibly want to play music and charge simultaneously, duh) which plugs into the Lightning port and gives you two Lightning connections in return. We’d have preferred one Lightning and one 3.5mm jack, but hey-ho.
You could also pick up one of Apple’s ludicrously pricey docks (£49.99), which have a 3.5mm jack on the back and charge your phone too.
Neither are perfect solutions, but they work.
While our eyes were instantly drawn to the matt black iPhone 7, Apple’s flagship colour is no doubt Jet Black. It’s proving popular too, with most stock seemingly already sold-out until November.

It’s got one major issue though, it scratches very easily. Aside from the many comments of people at the launch event saying that phones were already getting micro-abrasions on the back, Apple itself says in the small-print of it’s site that the Jet Black model might be better off in a case.
So that’s the only real advice; if you pick up a Jet Black iPhone 7, grab a case to go with it. Our best cases for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus should have you covered.
As with any new phone, you’ll likely experience fairly poor battery life in the first few days. You’ll be using it more, trying out all those fancy new features, sending a million GIFs in iMessage and installing a boat-load of apps. It’s just natural that it’ll drain faster.
I can’t buy the iPhone 7 I want – anywhere
This isn’t so much a problem with the iPhone 7, but more a problem that stems from the popularity of Apple’s flagship phone. Or, the Cupertino company might simply not have been able to manufacture enough phones.
Either way, it’s certainly tough to pick one up if you weren’t on the trigger and pre-ordered. The Apple Store implies if you order today then you’ll receive your unit in 2-3 weeks (it’s slightly less for the regular iPhone 7 model), unless you want the Jet Black version that won’t ship until November.

Carphone Warehouse claims it’ll have stock of the smaller iPhone 7 on September 23, while it’ll be October 7 for the matt black iPhone 7 Plus.
One of the more subtler changes for the iPhone 7 was the switch from a home-button that clicks to one that just gives the impression it’s clicking. Like the trackpad on the MacBook, the new iPhone button gives off a series of vibrations when you press it.
If this feeling is surreal, you can alter it. Head into Settings > General and you can pick between three different choices. With a stronger vibration being given up as you go higher.

iPhone Troubleshooting: How to Fix Common iPhone Problems
Don’t you just hate it when your iPhone starts acting up? We do, too. That’s why we’ve put together this essential guide to help you fix all the common (and some less common) iPhone issues.
These fixes will be quicker than going to an Apple Store and waiting for a Genius Bar appointment, and it won’t cost you a dime.
In this guide we’ll look at, and tell you how to fix the following iPhone problems:

iPhone Won’t Connect to WiFi
The Problem : Your iPhone won’t connect to a public or private WiFi network.
The Fix : Swipe up to reveal the iPhone’s control centre and tap the WiFi button, wait a few seconds and turn it back on.
This will disconnect you from all WiFi networks and then begin reconnecting.
If this doesn’t work, try the same, but with Airplane Mode.
If the problem persists, head into the phone settings and forget the network Settings > WiFi then tap the network you’re trying to connect to.
The Problem : Your iPhone grinds to a halt in the middle of tasks, leaving you unable to interact with the phone.
The Fix : Try a force restart. This will shutdown your iPhone, ending all ongoing tasks. Don’t worry, you shouldn’t lose any data like photos or contacts, although you might end up losing the email you were in the middle of writing.
The force restart process differs depending on which iPhone you have:
- iPhone 6 or older : Hold down the Home button and the Power/ Top button until the Apple logo appears .
- iPhone 7/7 Plus : Hold the Volume Down button and the Power button (right hand side) until the Apple logo appears .
- iPhone 8/ 8 Plus and iPhone X : Press and quickly release the Volume Up button , press and quickly release the Volume Down button , press and hold the Power button (right hand side) until the Apple logo appears .

If the problem continues, check if there’s a software update available – if so, install it. If it persists further, try factory resetting your iPhone, making sure you backup any data before you do.
iPhone Won’t Update
The Problem : Your iPhone won’t update to the newest version of iOS.
The Fix : Connect your phone to a PC or Mac and conduct a force restart as we mentioned above, this will put your iPhone into recovery mode.
You should then see an option to update it, tap to update the phone and once the update has completed, your phone should be working again.
If the update option doesn’t appear, you’ll have to restore your phone. This will remove all the data from your iPhone and restore it to its factory settings.
The Problem : You’ve lost all the data previously held on your iPhone.
The Fix : Providing you have an iCloud backup, this should be straightforward. You’ll need to sync your phone to iCloud – iPhones do this automatically at night when locked and charging.
If you’re missing content you expect to be there, and it isn’t on your iCloud backup, you’re probably out of luck. You could try taking it to an Apple Store, but we can’t promise they’d be able to get anything back.
The Problem : On a sunny day, if you leave your iPhone in the sun too long, you’ll see a warning telling you that your phone is too hot and it needs to cool down before you can use it again.
The Fix : Please, don’t put it in the fridge or freezer. Remove the case (if you have one) and keep it out of direct sunlight, then simply wait and it should cool down. It can be a good idea to switch on Airplane Mode while waiting for it too cool
You may, alternatively, find that your iPhone is frequently running hot, though not giving you the warning message mentioned above.
The Fix : This happens to a lot of electronic devices over time, from phones to laptops and games consoles. There’s rarely a quick fix, as the problems are often hardware related – an aging processor or battery, for example. But, these are some of the things you can do to alleviate the issue.
- Remove the case : The more surface area of the phone is exposed, the easier it will be for it to regulate its temperature.
- Check the holes : clear dirt, fluff or debris from the charging point or headphone jack.
- Turn off Bluetooth and background app refreshing : The less tasks you processor is having to manage, the cooler it will stay
- Take a break from games : Sad to say, but you might have to park your mobile gaming for the meanwhile, especially if you play graphically-intensive or AR games, such as Pokemon Go.
- Turn off location settings : This will stop apps accessing bluetooth, GPS, or Wifi networks to ascertain your location. It’s often best to put apps on the “While using” setting, so you don’t lose functionality when you’re actually using the app.
- Only charge your phone when it’s cool : Charging the battery causes it to heat up, and charging it while hot only exacerbates the issue.
If your phone is still running too hot, your best bet is to take it to an Apple Store and get a diagnosis on the device or simply buy a new one .
iPhone Battery Drains Too Quickly
The Problem : Your iPhone runs out of battery too quickly.
The Fix : The obvious – though not particularly satisfying – fix is to reduce how much you use your phone. However, there are some tricks to help you eke out a bit more time from your phone:
- Check the Battery Health : This is a new feature introduced in iOS 11. Head to Settings > Battery > Battery Health (Beta) . It tells you how far your battery has degraded over time, and whether you need to change it. This is not Apple ‘planned obsolescence’, either. It’s an issue inherent to all lithium ion batteries.
- Turn Bluetooth off : You need to head into the settings menu to do this, turning it off via the control centre doesn’t actually turn off Bluetooth.
- Turn down screen brightness
- Turn on lower power mode
- Decrease the auto screen lock time
- Turn off background app refresh : Head to Settings > General > Background app refresh .
iPhone won’t Charge
The Problem : When plugged in, the battery doesn’t charge up.
The Fix : Check your charging port for dust and debris (a safety pin or paperclip is good to do this with). If your phone still won’t charge, check your charging cable – does it work with other Apple devices? Does other stuff work in the same wall plug? Do other USB cables work in the USB plug?
If that doesn’t work, try a force restart. If that doesn’t fix it, try a factory reset. If you still can’t charge your phone, head down to an Apple Store.
The Problem : Your phone’s screen has stopped responding, or it has frozen and is stuck on a black screen.
The Fix : The first thing you should do is try a force restart. We’ve detailed how to do that above (anchor link). If that doesn’t work, try charging the phone for up to an hour. If you still don’t see the charging screen, or you see the connect to power screen, try cleaning out charging point and headphone jack, check the USB cable and the wall plug.
If your screen is cracked and has stopped responding, it’s likely to be a hardware problem – meaning you’ll need a new screen. Apple is famously finicky with its warranties, so if they won’t fix it, try an authorised Apple reseller. They often fix screens for less than Apple, though you might lose some functionality (force touch, for example).
iPhone Won’t Turn On
The Problem : Your iPhone won’t turn on or it’s stuck on the logo screen.
The Fix : Try a force restart (anchor link). If that doesn’t work, try charging it for an hour – making sure you check that the USB cable and plug are working, as well as ensuring there’s no dust or debris in the phone’s charging port.
If it still won’t turn on, try taking it to an Apple store as it might be a hardware related issue, such as a completely failed battery.
The Problem : Your iPhone seems to run really slowly, all the time.
The Fix : There are loads of ways to speed up your iPhone: Delete apps you don’t use, turn off background app refreshing, clear your the cache on the Safari web browser.

The Problem : You just can’t remember your iPhone’s passcode, or a message is telling you that your iPhone has been disabled.
The Fix : There’s not much you can do here, other than restore your phone to its factory settings and erase all the data on it. You can, however, promptly restore the phone from a backup.
If you’ve previously synced it with iTunes, simply plug your phone into your PC or Mac and find the “Restore iPhone” button. Then follow instructions, and select “Restore from iTunes Backup”.
If you’ve not synced your phone with iTunes, you can restore from iCloud after putting your iPhone into recovery mode. Again, you’ll need to connect your phone to a PC or Mac then open iTunes – it doesn’t have to be your own computer, either.
Can’t Back Up iPhone to iCloud
The Problem : Your iPhone won’t backup its data to the iCloud
The Fix : The first thing to do is check whether your iCloud storage limit is full. If it is, you might have to stop backing up or delete some data – photos typically take up a lot of room, and there might be some you don’t need, otherwise, games tend to backup data, as does the Mail app.
If you can’t trim your backup needs sufficiently, it might be worth upgrading your storage plan. For 99 cents a month, you can 50GB’s worth of iCloud storage – ten times the free amount. This small expense is genuinely worth it, and you’re unlikely to fill it up.
Before trying anything else, check if there’s an iOS update available. If that still doesn’t work, try resetting the network settings (this will reset wifi networks and passwords, as well as cellular and VPN settings) to do this, go to Settings > General > Reset (at the bottom of the page) > Reset Network Settings .
If this doesn’t work, try backing it up with iTunes, then deleting your old iCloud backup and then trying the backup again.
What if My iPhone Problem isn’t on Here?
If you can’t find the answer to your problem on here, a good place to start your troubleshooting is with a force restart. This will halt all current processes and will likely stop any sudden software issues you’ve encountered.
If the problem continues to persist, backing up your phone and resetting it to factory settings should stop any strange goings on.
